Membership and Fees

REGULAR MEMBERSHIP

Any person desiring to become a student at Heartland School of Eskrima and Self-Defense may apply for membership by filling out the Membership Application form.  There is no fee to apply for membership.  Please email Guro Kristine at kristine@heartlandeskrimaschool.com for an application.

Upon acceptance as a student, a one-time initiation fee of $300.00 must be paid to the school before training begins.  A three-day grace period is granted from the hour and date that Heartland School receives the initiation fee where either party may cancel the membership commitment for any reason whatsoever, and the full initiation fee shall be returned to the applicant.  Once the grace period has expired the initiation fee becomes non-refundable.

The monthly cost of training for students is $150.00.  This fee shall cover all class training sessions, and the use of all school facilities and equipment during class times.  All students must provide all of their own personal training equipment.

Additional private lesson fees will be decided upon on a per-case basis between the student and the Head Guro for those students desiring private lessons.

Membership in Women of the Word / Women of the Sword is free to all female students who are enrolled as students at Heartland School.

Seminars, clinics and training offered through Heartland School, but provided by guest instructors, will not have mandatory attendance requirements.  These offerings will have separate costs to the students who do choose to attend them.

Students who incur expenses such as the costs of training, travel, food and lodging, as a direct result of their participation in any capacity as a student or representative of Heartland School, whether at the request of the Head Guro or not, shall not expect any form of cash reimbursement for the expenses.

There shall never be any fees associated with any rank testing, promotion or advancement at Heartland School.

LONG-DISTANCE STUDENTS

Persons who desire to become long-distance students of Heartland School may apply for membership in the school by filling out a Membership Application form.  There is no fee to apply to be a long-distance student.

Training fees for long-distance students will be determined on a per-case basis.

Training times and locations will be arranged with the Head Guro.

VISITORS

Visitors to Heartland School, regardless of martial arts background, rank or experience, will be treated as honored guests, and will not be asked to pay a fee to participate in regular class training sessions.

Visitors to Heartland School may arrange for private lessons with the Head Guro at the rate of $25.00/hour of actual training time outside of regular class training sessions.

PROMOTION

Promotion and advancement in rank is based upon the student’s mastery of the minimum requirements of each level, rather than based upon time in level.  Attendance records will be maintained, and will also have a bearing upon advancement.

There shall never be any fees associated with any rank testing, promotion or advancement at Heartland School.

A typical student, with no previous training in eskrima can expect to advance from Level 1 (Beginner) to Level 7 (Full Instructor-Basic) in approximately 6-7 years.  A student’s prior experience and martial arts training may or may not have a bearing on the rapidity of his or her advancement in rank at Heartland School of Eskrima.

Rank advancement and promotion are at the sole discretion of the Head Guro.
