REGULAR MEMBERSHIP
Any person
desiring to become a student at Heartland School of Eskrima and Self-Defense may apply for membership by filling out the Membership
Application form. There is no fee to apply for membership. Please email
Guro Kristine at kristine@heartlandeskrimaschool.com for an application.
Upon acceptance
as a student, a one-time initiation fee of $300.00 must be paid to the school before training begins. A three-day grace period is granted from the hour and date that Heartland School receives the initiation
fee where either party may cancel the membership commitment for any reason whatsoever, and the full initiation fee shall
be returned to the applicant. Once the grace period has expired the initiation
fee becomes non-refundable.
The monthly
cost of training for students is $150.00. This fee shall cover all class training
sessions, and the use of all school facilities and equipment during class times. All students must provide all
of their own personal training equipment.
Additional
private lesson fees will be decided upon on a per-case basis between the student and the Head Guro for those students desiring
private lessons.
Membership
in Women of the Word / Women of the Sword is free to all female students who are enrolled as students at Heartland School.
Seminars,
clinics and training offered through Heartland School, but provided by guest instructors, will not have mandatory attendance
requirements. These offerings will have separate costs to the students who do
choose to attend them.
Students
who incur expenses such as the costs of training, travel, food and lodging, as a direct result of their participation in any
capacity as a student or representative of Heartland School, whether at the request of the Head Guro or not, shall not expect
any form of cash reimbursement for the expenses.
There shall
never be any fees associated with any rank testing, promotion or advancement at Heartland School.
LONG-DISTANCE STUDENTS
Long-distance
students are those students who do not live close enough to Heartland School’s training facilities to permit regular
class attendance, but who desire to commit to learning the School’s curriculum.
Persons
who desire to become long-distance students of Heartland School may apply for membership in the school by filling out a Membership
Application form. There is no fee to apply to be a long-distance student.

times and locations will be arranged with the Head Guro.
VISITORS
Visitors
to Heartland School, regardless of martial arts background, rank or experience, will be treated as honored guests, and will
not be asked to pay a fee to participate in regular class training sessions.
Visitors
to Heartland School may arrange for private lessons with the Head Guro at the rate of $25.00/hour of actual training time
outside of regular class training sessions.
PROMOTION
Promotion
and advancement in rank is based upon the student’s mastery of the minimum requirements of each level, rather than based
upon time in level. Attendance records will be maintained, and will also have
a bearing upon advancement.
There shall
never be any fees associated with any rank testing, promotion or advancement at Heartland School.
A typical
student, with no previous training in eskrima can expect to advance from Level 1 (Beginner) to Level 7 (Full Instructor-Basic)
in approximately 6-7 years. A student’s prior experience and martial arts
training may or may not have a bearing on the rapidity of his or her advancement in rank at Heartland School of Eskrima.
Rank advancement
and promotion are at the sole discretion of the Head Guro.
